The Gardens

The gardens

Lamai Sarai has five main gardens.

The Butterfly Garden, is accessed through the Chinese Tea Pavillion on the pool deck. Sip your choice of green or black teas (we stock a regular supply from China’s Fujian and Yunnan provinces), while lying in a hammock strung in the solid teak sala, and watch the butterflies come and go.

The Waterfall Garden runs underneath the villa’s pool deck. It can be enjoyed by guests from above, and by request, visited. It is full of shade-loving tropical ferns. The slate stone waterfall is inspired by the hills of Wales, where we lived for many years.

The Bamboo Garden is private to the honeymoon suite and accessible when guests are also renting that suite. It has three types of bamboo, a traditional solid teak pavilion, sunbathing deck and a rock-pool jacuzzi.

The Secret Garden is accessible from the grand stairway and is a small space between the house and the massive granite rocks to the rear. A great place to hide with a book.

The Jungle Garden is the area between the villa and the naturally forested hillside behind (a protected forest area). We keep this space accessible by clearing the jungle occasionally, which gives you access to the wild terrain of Samui. At your own risk, the more adventurous may wish to climb one of the granite boulders and fall asleep in the jungle canopy with a book and view of the bay.
